The Wood Store
The History Of The Charity
From this single project set up in 1998 founder Richard Mehmed created Community Wood Recycling, a nationwide network of wood recycling social enterprises carrying out commercial waste timber collections from places as diverse as HS2 and Eastenders and offering low-cost wood and beautiful handmade reclaimed timber products to local communities. The network has changed the lives of hundreds of vulnerable and excluded people including people who have been unable to work because of mental illness, victims of modern slavery, ex-offenders, people with learning difficulties and the long term unemployed.”

About The Charity
Their Impact & Mission
Protect the Environment
By collecting, recycling, and re-using waste wood. The collected material is brought to their home in Brighton, known as The Wood Store, for sorting and preparation, so it can be sold to the community or made into products. Anything that cannot be reused is recycled for wood chip.
Educate and Promote Change
Through educational materials and affordable sustainably produced timber, to inspire a future dedicated to responsible consumption and sustainability
Change Lives and Build Futures
By creating jobs and offering work placements, training, qualifications, mentoring, and volunteering opportunities, focusing on empowering those who are excluded from the job market.
