Sintra Bobbin Cocktail Cabinet

Inspired by the classic arched shape of many of our favorite architectural landmarks and designed to pay homage to one of our popular restorations, the Sintra Arched Cocktail Cabinet incorporates the depth and intricate textures of antique furniture design and beautifully balances these elements with the seamless integration of Sintra’s signature bobbin pattern and the archetypal arched shape. Contrasted by the stunning rattan weave, the result is a piece that is rich in history and detail, yet feels contemporary and refined.

To create our signature bobbin pattern, we hand-turn each leg from a carefully selected solid block of wood. This traditional process shapes each curve individually, ensuring a natural flow and a strikingly consistent yet unique pattern. This infuses our pieces with a distinctive air of uniqueness and character.

Our goal when creating this piece was to accentuate the natural flowing lines throughout and create a fluid connection between each section. This meant we had to ensure the grain seamlessly followed the shape of the piece. To achieve this effect, we used a traditional woodbending method that employs steam and bespoke-built forms to shape the solid wood into our desired contours. This method allows us to carefully select the timber and create a stable, beautifully crafted feature with the most beautiful grain and texture.

When we say “entirely,” we mean it in every sense of the word. Every part of this piece from the panels to the rails, the joints in the structure, and the panels on the back is crafted from carefully selected and meticulously joined solid wood. This approach allows us to incorporate beautiful traditional joinery, ensuring that each connection is as strong as it is elegant.

The “pièce de résistance” is the striking textural contrast provided by the rattan weave, which makes this design truly exceptional. The intricate handwoven pattern, crafted from thick cane fibers, is a rare effect that only highly experienced craftsmen can achieve. Each roll is woven into a beautiful, tight weave and meticulously installed by our team to fit each door flawlessly. This stunning feature not only adds visual appeal but also keeps the interior airy and breathable.

Each piece we create will feature a handpicked Carrara marble worktop, carefully selected and cut bespoke for us. We take great pride in choosing each marble slab and selecting only the most stunning sections to ensure a perfect match. These worktops are meticulously polished and prepared to withstand the rigorous use as a bar surface.

To ensure a flawless fit and an impeccable finish, we template the back of each piece to cut the mirror with precision, using low-iron, high-quality glass ensuring a natural reflection and seamless continuation of the surrounding room and ambiance. The perfect fit of the mirror is a key element that elevates the experience of the interior, making the use of this piece feel truly special.

Below the marble, you will find a spacious hidden storage compartment designed with the perfect height to store bottles and glasses, providing convenient and accessible support to the worktop. This compartment is operated by a set of perfectly calibrated, soft-close sliding doors, crafted from the same timber to match the exterior of the piece. These are easily operated by bespoke inset solid brass fittings on each side of the cabinet, bringing a touch of sophistication and practicality to the interior.

Drawing on our extensive background in furniture restoration, we have seen countless pieces and understand what ensures their longevity for hundreds of years. This is why we chose the most robust and enduring joinery techniques, ensuring our pieces age gracefully and can be passed down through generations.

It’s hard to speak of this piece without mentioning the almost theatrical impact of opening the doors. Strategically placed sensors activate the built-in light strip when the doors open, gradually illuminating the interior as the lights become brighter and brighter. We chose the warmest possible configuration for the light fixtures to create a cozy and inviting environment, which is especially striking as the sun sets outside. It’s truly a beautiful sight to see and a welcome surprise each and every time.

We completed this piece with a set of elegant, solid antiqued brass knobs, providing a refined and understated look that blends seamlessly with the natural tone of the wood. The solid brass knobs, combined with the tactile nature of this piece, make the interaction with it feel refined and inviting.
