Description
Each library bookcase bureau is crafted by sourcing beautiful antique pieces with outstanding solid oak construction that have been well-preserved over time and carefully restored. We fully disassemble each piece, reinforce all joints, and repair any mechanical issues to ensure the bureau functions as flawlessly as it did when first built, guaranteeing its usability for another century.
We then meticulously hand-strip the entire piece to remove the old dark finish, preparing it for our new signature finishes. The top cabinet includes three shelves as standard, with adjustable heights via solid brass supports that match the exterior hardware’s patina. The cabinet’s back is painted to match the bureau’s interior, creating a cohesive aesthetic with a contrasting background. The doors are paneled with sustainably sourced, hand-woven rattan made from 100% cane and finished with natural finishes.
For each individual piece, we craft a bespoke cornice tailored to the cabinet’s proportions. The entire piece, including the doors, is disassembled and rejoined to ensure optimal functionality, with the doors operating on solid brass ball catches and hinges.
The desk and drawer interiors are hand-painted in a colour of your choice, with Joa’s White by Farrow & Ball as the standard option. You may also select a custom colour to complement your room, free of charge, using the box above. All brass components are gently cleaned, not polished, to retain their unique aged patina. We add a small scalloped detail to the interior, giving the piece a charming, personalised touch that feels truly special and inviting.
The exterior can be finished in our darker signature blends, featuring a hand-painted, highlighted scalloped edge around the base that complements the stunning antique hand-turned barley twist legs. We frame the lid and drawer fronts with beautiful bobbin beading, matched to the finish of your choice.
The finish shown in the images is Blend #31, but if you’d like to explore other options, please visit our finishes page.
