An original early 20th-century bentwood armchair by J. & J. Kohn, produced at the firm’s Teplitz workshop in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire and recently restored in our studio with care to retain its elegant form and expressive character. This model, No. 18½/4, is distinguished by its tall sculptural backrest formed from continuous steam-bent beech and its flowing arms which curl into a finely balanced frame. The pressed veneer seat bears the original shell motif, a detail exclusive to select Kohn catalogue models of the period.
Stamped beneath the seat with the maker’s mark: J. & J. Kohn, Teplitz, Austria.
