Antique Solid Oak Bureau With Rope Trim In Blend #41

The bureau was fully restored in our West Sussex workshop with great care and respect for its original craftsmanship. We began by carrying out a complete assessment of the structure before carefully disassembling the main components so the framework could be cleaned, repaired, and secured. The joints were tightened and reinforced where needed, and the drawers and fall front were adjusted to ensure smooth and reliable function. Once the structure was sound, the original finish was removed by hand to reveal the natural oak beneath and prepare it for a new finish that protects the wood while keeping the grain clear and expressive. The interior compartments were cleaned, refined, and brought back to full working order, preserving their original layout and character. This bureau is practical and versatile, offering an organised writing space within the fall front and generous storage in the drawers below. Its scale makes it easy to place in a living room, bedroom, or hallway, and the combination of oak grain, darker finish, and rope detailing gives it a presence that feels familiar yet refined. Restored thoughtfully and finished by hand, it is ready for everyday use while carrying the character and craftsmanship of the original piece.
