A Lasting Responsibility
Our Commitment to Sustainability
From how we design and make, to how we restore and source materials, sustainability at Attica is rooted in respect . For craftsmanship, for resources, and for the people and hands that shape them. Each decision is guided by longevity, ensuring that what we create today will endure, be repaired, and remain meaningful for generations to come.

SUSTAINABILITY IN MAKING
Sustainability, for us, begins with respect for the resources we work with and for the way something is built. Every design is created with the long view in mind, shaped by the belief that what is made with care should last for generations. Timeless form and honest materials are the foundation, allowing each piece to remain relevant and repairable as years pass. We build furniture that is meant to live many lives, made to age gracefully and to return to us whenever time leaves its mark.
In practice, this means designing every element from the ground up to be repaired, not replaced. Drawers are made entirely from timber, with raw interiors and proportions that allow for natural movement without friction or failure. We use natural glues that are both incredibly strong and reversible, so joints can one day be opened and restored without damage. Every decision, from the way the rails are positioned to the choice of materials, ensures that future makers will always be able to repair what we build. Each piece is produced in small batches in the UK, maintaining precision, adaptability, and the quiet individuality that only handwork allows.

Sustainability in Restoration
Our restoration work is, at its heart, an act of preservation. Each antique we restore represents a continuation of resources already used, a way of extending the life of what has already been made rather than creating something new. By repairing and reviving these pieces, we prevent valuable materials and craftsmanship from being lost to time, giving them the chance to serve and be appreciated again.
Restoration also completes the circle of sustainability. It gives every Attica piece a place to return to, whether for repair, revival, or resale, ensuring that nothing made with care is ever lost. It also teaches us the lessons that guide the sustainability of what we create today, helping us understand how materials age and how good construction endures. We take great pride in restoring the work of past craftsmen that also carried these principles in their work and giving it another life, just as our own furniture will, hopefully, one day be restored by future hands. This continuous exchange between old and new, between learning and making, keeps materials, knowledge, and stories in motion rather than letting them fade.

Sustainability in Materials
Every material we choose carries meaning. We work only with solid timber because it is natural, renewable, and infinitely repairable, capable of being refinished or reworked without losing its essence. The wood we use is sourced locally and responsibly, chosen so that it can reach us with the lowest possible emissions and originate from trusted suppliers who share our belief that materials should be cherished, not consumed.
Our finishes are developed in-house using blends of natural oils, waxes and pigments that protect the surface while allowing the timber to breathe and highlight the beauty of the grain. When colour is added, we rely on eco-friendly water-based paints made by manufacturers committed to sustainability. All our finished pieces are safe for household life and designed to endure years of everyday use while maintaining their natural warmth and tactile quality.
